WELCOME TO MARATABA MOUNTAIN LODGE

On 1 June 2018, Marataba Trails Lodge becomes Marataba Mountain Lodge – redefined as a traditional safari experience in an exclusive wilderness retreat.

This change comes as MORE realises that the lodge’s location – within the Marakele National Park, conserving 67 000ha of the UNESCO-recognised Waterberg Biosphere – is simply too special to be kept only for those taking the trails that originally defined the offering. As part of this shift, Marataba Trails are now offered as a specialist walking experience for the seasoned hiker looking for a challenge in a unique part of the world.

The essence of the fully solar-powered, Scandi-style Marataba Mountain Lodge is in its secluded location. Just five private Eco Suites – each with a king-sized bed, minibar, Nespresso machine, wood-burning fireplace, en-suite rain shower, and shaded viewing deck – open onto a setting renowned for its magnificent scenery and flourishing wildlife, including the critically endangered black rhino.

No more than 10 guests, in a wilderness world of their own, can explore their way: on traditional game drives, bush walks, Miss Mara Water Safaris, and specialist Marataba Trails. These are the only trails of their kind in a Big Five reserve, and lead through different areas of the park – rivers, gorges, mountains, and sites of historical interest – putting guests in the thick of things, getting them closer to nature. Our expert trails guides will advise on suitable routes, based on guests’ interests and fitness levels.

On guests’ return, in-room Africology spa treatments at the hands of expert therapists can be arranged, and are an ideal way to ease any aching muscles and relax between safari activities. The main lodge provides a social space to unwind, with an open-plan dining and lounge area, expansive viewing deck, infinity Rock Pool overlooking Waterfall Valley, and a firepit lounge hosting convivial gatherings under the stars.
