A rich pioneer history dating back to 1488 has brought together diverse nationalities from around the world, and the marriage of their cultures, languages, cuisines, religions and creative spirits has made Cape Town a fascinating African destination with a cosmopolitan feel.
Not sure where to start? Our top five tours will help you dive straight in!
City Orientation Tour (half day) – Introducing our Cape Town
See iconic sights, experience authentic Capetonian living, and take a walk back in time to historical treasures. You can look forward to summiting Table Mountain by aerial cable car; exploring the Castle of Good Hope; and sampling regional street food at the always-buzzing Eastern Food Bazar… to name but a few.
Table Mountain & Lions Head Guided Hike (2-6 hours) – Feel fully alive!
Nowhere else in the world does an area of such staggering natural beauty and diversity exist almost completely surrounded by cityscape. With an extraordinary concentration and diversity of plants and animals found nowhere else in the world, and a unique geology, the mountains are best explored on foot. If the hiking doesn't do it, the city bowl and ocean views from up here will take your breath away!
Cape Peninsula Tour (full day) – Take the scenic route
Take in some of South Africa’s most spectacular sights. Highlights include panoramic seascapes from Chapman’s Peak Drive; the natural and historical wonders of the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve; Cape Point Ostrich Farm and Leather Shop; the African penguins of Boulders Beach; and the seaside villages of Kalk Bay and Simon’s Town.
Cape Winelands Tour (full day) – Drink it all in! Ahem
Visit the historical wine country towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, and be treated to a minimum of three tastings at some of the Cape’s most renowned estates. A cellar tour is offered on request. An eventful day ends with Vergenoegd Löw Wine Estate’s Runner Duck Parade – the amusing late afternoon ritual of the estate’s quacking natural pest control team.
Communities Tour (half day) – A humbling but enriching perspective
Our Cape Town hotels, together with MORE Community Foundation, assist Mfuleni township’s Injongo Educare Centre, which provides a loving environment of support and security for young and vulnerable children. Visit the centre, meet its inspirational founder Mavis and spend time with the children, before taking a tour of the township for an insight into local life here.
It was so difficult choosing just five that we’ve snuck in a sixth!...
Whales & Wine Tour (full day) – The toasts of our town
On the Whale Route, stop off along Kogelberg Nature Reserve’s coast for some Southern Right whale land-based watching – among the world’s most spectacular – or get closer by boat. Later, move on to the Wine Route and enjoy at least two tastings in either the Elgin Valley or Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, both producing some very special wines. Available June to November
