Artist Residency
At Ivory Lodge and Narina Lodge, creativity and wilderness converge. In partnership with the Southern African Foundation and Fellowship for Contemporary Art (SAFFCA), established and emerging artists live and work at Lion Sands, transforming the studio into both a gallery and creative workspace. Guests have the opportunity to observe the artistic process and engage with artists inspired by the surrounding wilderness.

The Lion Sands Artist Residency offers a rare opportunity to experience art as it is being created. Visit the studio, meet the resident artist and discover how time spent in the wilderness influences each work. Every residency brings a different creative perspective, shaped by the landscapes, wildlife and quiet moments that define Lion Sands.

Many of the works created during each residency are available to purchase, offering guests the opportunity to take home an original piece inspired by Lion Sands. More than a gallery, the residency celebrates contemporary African art while supporting artists and creating meaningful connections between creativity, conservation and place.

The Lion Sands Artist Residency is curated in partnership with the Southern African Foundation and Fellowship for Contemporary Art (SAFFCA). Together, we support a residency that brings established and emerging contemporary artists to Lion Sands, giving them the time and space to create new work inspired by the wilderness while offering guests a rare opportunity to experience the creative journey behind each piece.
