Kosher kitchen at Marataba

Keeping kosher is about reverence and adherence to religious tradition for the Jewish community. Since 2021 we have had a designated kosher kitchen at Lion Sands and are pleased to have extended this offering to our Marataba property.

Marataba Safari Lodge offers gourmet cuisine, freshly prepared on-site in a dedicated kitchen. To ensure our kosher guests have a worry-free stay, we establish your specific needs prior to arrival and ensure foods comply with dietary guidelines as set by traditional Jewish law. Our facilities have designated cookware and utensils, as well as storage, preparation and cleaning areas for meat and dairy. Kosher ingredients are sourced from Beth Din-approved suppliers. Guests can also specify whether they would prefer Mehadrin Commission Meat and Cholov Yisroel dairy products, as well as any other dietary requirements.

We have two costed options to choose from. The first is supervision throughout by a Mashgiach, who arrives at the lodge a day before to Kasher the entire kitchen, and then stays on-site to supervise our in-house Chef during all meal preparations and services. All ingredients, as well as served beverages and snacks, are supervised by the Mashgiach.

We also offer an option of self-supervision where guests are invited to inspect the kitchen and supervise meal preparations.

Throughout, adherence to the following is applied:

Stainless steel pots and pans are boiled and torched clean between each meal (if guests prefer, new sets can be available).

Cleaning of crockery and cutlery is supervised (if guests prefer, good-quality, single-use sets are available).

We want our guests to feel at home, while also enjoying every treat that a luxury Marataba Safari Lodge stay has to offer.
