Kosher at Lion Sands allows you to experience safari with reassurance and clarity - whether staying at Ivory Lodge, River Lodge or Fish Eagle Residence. From a fully accredited kosher kitchen to supervised and self-supervised options, observance is approached with care, allowing your family to immerse fully in the wilderness.

Ivory Lodge – A Fully Accredited Kosher Kitchen
Ivory Lodge offers a permanent kosher kitchen approved and supervised by the Beth Din of Johannesburg. A private mashgiach arrives prior to your stay to kasher the kitchen and remains onsite to oversee preparation and service. Guests may also choose to have a private Jewish chef prepare all meals under mashgiach supervision. Ingredients, beverages and safari refreshments are sourced from approved suppliers, with options such as Mehadrin Commission meat and Cholov Yisroel dairy available on request.
At River Lodge, kosher meals are prepared in dedicated areas of the main kitchen and may be either self-supervised or mashgiach-supervised. Under the supervised model, a private mashgiach arrives ahead of your stay to kasher the kitchen and oversee preparation. Alternatively, guests may inspect the facilities and supervise meal preparation themselves. Careful separation of meat and dairy is maintained throughout.

Fish Eagle Residence
Fish Eagle Residence includes its own private kitchen and follows the River Lodge kosher experience. Guests may choose to self-supervise within the residence kitchen or arrange supervised options. Should guests prefer the fully accredited Ivory Lodge kosher kitchen, meals can be enjoyed in Ivory Lodge’s main dining area.
Kosher observance continues throughout the safari experience. Refreshments served on game drives are sourced in accordance with kosher requirements, and drive schedules can be adjusted to support Shabbos observance, including early Friday returns where required. Kosher stays incur an additional charge and must be arranged in advance.
