Safari

This is why you came to Africa - to witness the Big Five where two legendary reserves meet. At Lion Sands, game drives and bush walks reveal animals living wild across the only private reserve spanning both Sabi Sand and Kruger National Park. Exceptional leopard sightings and 6.5 miles of exclusive Sabie River frontage make this one of Africa's most sought-after safari destinations.

The Reserve

Lion Sands' unique position across both Sabi Sand and Kruger National Park creates extraordinary wildlife variety. Thirteen miles of exclusive Sabie River frontage provides a natural gathering point where elephants wade, hippos wallow, and predators hunt. Non-migratory species ensure exceptional year-round sightings - lions prowling riverbanks, leopards in trees with remarkable frequency, buffalo herds crossing the current.

Game Drives and Bush Walks

Venture out when the bush is most alive - early mornings as predators return from night hunts, late afternoons as animals emerge to drink. Your field guide and tracker work as a team in open safari vehicles (maximum six guests), reading signs and positioning you for intimate encounters.

Bush walks transform everything. Without an engine, senses sharpen - your armed guide reveals spoor, tracks, and intricate connections a vehicle can't capture. It's about understanding that safari isn't just big animals, it's reading how the entire wilderness functions.

Safari Surprises

Between sightings, surprise stops offer something special - scenic pauses to simply appreciate the moment. Your field guide lays out hot drinks and snacks, perhaps coffee with Amarula Cream or sundowners to celebrate that fantastic sighting. These unplanned moments often become the memories you treasure most.

We got to explore the full reserve and see soooo many amazing animals. Lion Sands has a large reserve and because of the two rivers on the reserve, you’re almost guaranteed to see a wide variety of animals.

Game drives are amazing and lead by wonderful guides and trackers, they really know what they are doing and go out of their way to make sure you have an amazing and safe experience. We saw so many different types of wildlife it was unbelievable, including the Big Five on the first three drives.

The safari drives will forever be engrained in my heart! Seeing the majestic animals living on the most beautiful land was a life changing experience. Every drive (morning and night) was an exciting adventure! We saw the big 5 plus many other spectacular animals. The sunsets were breathtaking, and the stars at night were magical.

Your Field Guide and Tracker

Our FGASA-accredited field guides and trackers bring encyclopaedic knowledge and genuine passion to every drive and walk. They'll explain why that bird call signals leopard presence, how to age an elephant by ear size, what lion pride dynamics reveal about hierarchy. They read the bush like language, spotting signs invisible to untrained eyes. Between morning and afternoon drives, bush walks and stargazing, they become your narrators to the wild - revealing rhythms and connections that transform sightings into deep understanding. It's their expertise and storytelling that turn a good safari into one that changes how you see the natural world forever.
